Demand-side power quality management

IEC TS 63191:2023 specifies recommendations about power quality measurement and assessment within installations.
This document outlines the various phases needed for the establishment of a demand-side power quality measurement plan for buildings and industry installations.
Such a power quality measurement plan will enable the optimization of the energy availability and efficiency, improve the assets lifetime and facilitate the resolutions of power quality problems. A power quality measurement plan encompasses the following phases:
• definition of the context, objectives and constraints;
• assessment of the initial power quality situation;
• definition of an action plan for the improvement of the power quality situation;
• implementation of the power quality measuring system;
• exploitation of the measurement system for the improvement of the power quality situation;
• maintenance of the measurement system.
This document will also help facility managers tailor their measurement plan to the specific needs of the electrical system under their control. It addresses all the disturbances present in such networks, but does not cover the disturbances present in public electrical distribution networks (supply side) as they are governed by specific documents such as EN 50160 and IEC TS 62749.
IEC TS 63191:2023 cancels and replaces IEC TR 63191, published in 2018. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) a new informative Annex A describing a tool to report the ability to assess the power quality of an electrical installation.

IEC SRD 62913-2-1 2019 (E) initiates and illustrates the IEC’s systems approach based on Use Cases and involving the identification of generic smart grid requirements for further standardization work for grid related domains – i.e. grid management regrouping: transmission grid management, distribution grid management, microgrids and smart substation automation domains – based on the methods and tools developed in IEC SRD 62913-1.
The Grid management domain groups Use Cases and associated requirements common to the EHV, HV and MV/LV networks operations and the business analysis of the general electric network life cycle. Artificial pollution tests on high-voltage ceramic and glass insulators to be used on a.c. systems

IEC 60507:2013 is applicable for the determination of the power frequency withstand characteristics of ceramic and glass insulators to be used outdoors and exposed to polluted atmospheres, on a.c. systems with the highest voltage of the system greater than 1 000 V. These tests are not directly applicable to polymeric insulators, to greased insulators or to special types of insulators (insulators with semiconducting glaze or covered with any organic insulating material). The object of this International Standard is to prescribe procedures for artificial pollution tests applicable to insulators for overhead lines, substations and traction lines and to bushings. It may also be applied to hollow insulators with suitable precautions to avoid internal flashover. In applying these procedures to apparatus incorporating hollow insulators, the relevant technical committees should consider their effect on any internal equipment and the special precautions which may be necessary. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) Corrections and the addition of explanatory material;
b) The addition of Clause 4.3.2 on atmospheric correction;
c) The change of the upper limit of conductivity of water to 0.1 S/m; and
d) The extension to UHV voltages.
The contents of the corrigendum of August 2018 have been included in this copy.

IEC 60335-2-122:2023(Main)
Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 122: Particular requirements for commercial washing machines

IEC 60335-2-122:2023 deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial washing machines, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single phase and 480 V for other appliances.
These appliances are not intended for household and similar purpose. They are used:
- by experts or instructed persons for commercial washing in areas not open to the public, for example on farms and in hotels, hospitals, restaurants and canteens; or
- by laymen in areas open to the public, for example launderettes and communal laundry rooms.
The electrical part of appliances making use of other forms of energy is also within the scope of this standard.
These appliances are designed to be connected to hot or cold water supply.
Appliances making use of steam or hot water for heating purposes are also within the scope of this standard.
As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by these types of appliances. However, in general, it does not consider young children playing with the appliance.
Attention is drawn to the fact that:
- for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements can be necessary;
- in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities;
- in many countries, additional requirements are specified for appliances incorporating pressurized parts;
- for appliances having additional functions (e.g. drying function), other standards are also applicable.
This standard does not apply to:
- appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes (ISO 10472-2);
- appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);
- washing machines appliances for household and similar use (IEC 60335-2-7).
This part 2 is to be used in conjunction with the latest edition of IEC 60335-1 and its amendments unless that edition precludes it; in that case, the latest edition that does not preclude it is used. It was established on the basis of the sixth edition (2020) of that standard.

Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-98: Particular requirements for humidifiers

IEC 60335-2-98:2023 is available as IEC 60335-2-98:2023 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 60335-2-98:2023 deals with the safety of electric humidifiers for household and similar use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances, including direct current (DC) supplied appliances and battery-operated appliances.
Examples of appliances that are within the scope of the standard are
- appliances that atomize water;
- appliances that evaporate water by heating;
- appliances that blow air through a moist element.
Appliances that are not intended for normal household use, but that nevertheless can be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.
As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account
- persons (including children) whose physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;
- children playing with the appliance.
Attention is drawn to the fact that
- for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements can be necessary;
- in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities.
This standard does not apply to
- appliances for heating liquids (IEC 60335-2-15);
- humidifiers intended for use with heating, ventilation or air-conditioning systems (IEC 60335-2-88);
- appliances for medical purposes (IEC 60601 series);
- appliances intended exclusively for industrial purposes;
- appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2002, Amendment 1:2004 and Amendment 2:2008. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) alignment with IEC 60335-1:2020;
b) additional requirements for a humidifier shaped or decorated like a toy (7.12, 8.1.1, 21.101, 22.12, 22.44, 22.54, 22.105);
c) additional requirements are included for the temperature of accessible surfaces (11.8);
d) application of test probes 18 and 19 has been introduced (Clause 8, 20.2, B.22.3, B.22.4);
e) additional guidance is provided for humidifiers for remote operation.
This part 2 is to be used in conjunction with the latest edition of IEC 60335-1 and its amendments unless that edition precludes it; in that case, the latest edition that does not preclude it is used. It was established on the basis of the sixth edition (2020) of that standard.
